Charles Stein Obituary

Charles J. Stein, 78, of Black River Falls, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on October 10, 1942 in Black River Falls, WI to Carl and Adeline (Stenulson) Stein.

He graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1960 and immediately went into the National Guard, where he proudly served for 6 years.  He was a farmer and loved tractors since he was 4 years old.  As he got older he participated in tractor pulls in the area.  He also drove livestock truck for Stein Trucking and in 1968 started driving gas transport for Midland, than Land O' Lakes and eventually Federation Coop.  He did this until he finally retired in 2005, although he did continue part time until 2011.  With all this he still had his hand in farming.  As the grandsons got older he enjoyed going to their sporting and school events.  He loved his family and enjoyed his time with them.  He loved to visit with people and especially enjoyed reminiscing about the good old days and the neighborhood.

Charles married Jean Staffon on August 12, 1972, at Squaw Creek Lutheran Church and enjoyed 48 years of marriage living in Black River Falls.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Cory) Hanson; Step-son Rod Larson, grandchildren, Aaron Becker, Nathan Becker, Alex Larson and Emily Roman; brothers, Roger (Sandy) Stein and Fred (Marietta) Stein; brothers-in-law, Rodger (Joan) Staffon and Bernard (Betty Ann) Staffon; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jean on August 18, 2020.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m., until 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Squaw Creek Lutheran Church, rural Black River Falls. A graveside service with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery with Vicar August Hohl officiating. Memorials may be given to the Squaw Creek Cemetery or Black River Memorial Hospice.
