Dan G. Adams

     Daniel G. "Dan" Adams, 76, of Melrose, died Friday, November 22, 2019, at his home.

     He was born on August 7, 1943, in La Crosse to Buford and Doris (Funk) Adams. Dan grew up in Onalaska and graduated from Onalaska High School. He played minor league baseball for the Cincinnati Reds' farm system from 1965-66. Dan then worked for his uncle at Lovejoy Construction building homes, at Heileman Brewing Company in La Crosse, Tru-Gas in La Crosse, and retired from Bernie's Equipment Company in Holmen.

     On May 22, 1971, Dan married Cindy M. Brown in Melrose.

     Fast-pitch softball was his passion with his career spanning from 1968-98.  He was one of the winningest managers in WASA history in ASA national competition with two national titles in 1989 and 1998.  He was inducted into the Wisconsin ASA Hall of Fame in 1999. He started the Melrose-Mindoro High School girls softball program and was head coach for three seasons.  Dan was fire chief for the Melrose Volunteer Fire Department from 1986-1989. He enjoyed hunting; fishing; watching the Brewers, Badgers, and Packers; and enjoyed sports in general.

     Survivors include his wife, Cindy of Melrose; children, Toni Adams and Katie (Nate) Jenks, both of Melrose; grandchildren, Charlie and Mackenzie; sister-in-law, Linda Adams of Onalaska; niece, Cari; nephews, Chris and Josh; and other relatives and many friends.

     Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mike Adams.

     Memorial services will be held at 12 noon, Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Melrose. Pastor Paul Hinz from First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shiocton, WI will officiate. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Melrose American Legion Post 439.
