Darlene L. Clemmerson, 84, of Sparta passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems, La Crosse surrounded by her family, whom she deeply loved. She was born on December 19, 1940, to Nelson and Louisa (Peters) Johnson. She grew up on a ruralfarm in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School in 1958.
On July 25, 1959, she married Peter Clemmerson. They lived in Chicago, Illinois for a short time and then moved to Kenosha where together, they had 3 children: Terry, Tammy, and Todd. In 1967 They moved back Sparta, Darlene worked at Deco-Mat. They moved to Janesville, WI and remained there until 1976, when they finally settled back in Sparta. She worked for Plastronics Packaging Corp.; after retirement she spent time on the road with Peter, in his semi. She looked forward every year working seasonally, for Habelman’s Cranberry Marsh, every fall. In more recent years Darlene started volunteering at tax time for AARP at the Barney Center, Sparta.
Darlene enjoyed everything about the outdoors. She loved gardening, tending to flowers, and feeding the birds, squirrels, watching the deer and trying to keep the raccoons out of her bird feeders. She cherished spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids her pride and joy.
Darlene is survived by her children, Terry (Wendy) Clemmerson, Tammy (Patrick) Clemmerson, and Todd Clemmerson; grandchildren, Dan (Sarah) Cole; Aaron (Jessica) Clemmerson, NiCole (Cole) Wittwer, Chad (Bridget) Leis, and Casey Leis; great-grandchildren, Haley. Payton, Grady, Cayln, Coltin, Kera, Jayda, Azlyn, and Brayson; great-great-grandchildren Brett, and Sawyer; as well as many other close family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; brothers, Richard Johnson, Randy Johnson, and Rodney Johnson; and sisters, Mary Krueger, and Debra Krueger.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Cataract Cemetery, in Cataract; with Pastor Roberta Nowicki officiating.
