Darren J. Schauf, 53, of Sparta, followed his path faithfully and made his way home on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Methodist Campus, Rochester, MN. He was born on December 6, 1965 to James Schauf and Pamela Mannel.
Darren grew up in the Sparta area and graduated from Sparta High School. He married Sara Francois on January 2, 2004 in Middleton. Darren retired from the US Navy after 20 dutiful years as a Senior Chief. He was deployed to Germany in 2006 and 2007 during Operation Enduring Freedom. Darren’s faith was very important to him as he was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church in Sparta. He was the General Manager for Fast Corp. in Sparta. Darren loved turkey and deer hunting; he enjoyed going out west to hunt and taking camping trips with his family to National Parks. He was an active member in The National Wild Turkey Federation and the Monroe County Long Spurs. Darren loved to mentor people who would potentially be interested in hunting.
Darren is survived by his loving wife, Sara; two children, Tanner and Cooper Schauf; father, Jim (Reenie) Schauf; mother, Pam (Doug) Mannel; his grandmother, Joyce Johnson; siblings, Chad (Keri) Schauf; Brian (Katie) Schauf; Jay (Tricia) Mannel; Kristeen Berendes (Mannel); and Jodie (Dean) Weber. He is further survived by countless cousins, nieces and nephews that were all very special to him.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Otto and Elizabeth Schauf; his maternal grandparents, Forrest “Stuke” Johnson and Norma Lee (Arliss) Peters; and several aunts, uncles, and family members.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 7, at New Life Assembly of God, with Reverend Randy Williamson officiating.
