David P. Meyer

David P. Meyer, 78, of Sparta, died Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at his home. He was born on October 24, 1943 in Sparta to Cecil and Helen (Christenson) Meyer. He attended St. John’s Elementary School and graduated from Sparta High School. He then attended UW-Madison’s Farm & Industry Short Course.

David married Celia Martinson on April 2, 1966 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Camp Douglas, WI. They lived their entire married lives in Sparta.

David bought a farm at age of 19 in East Beaver Creek north of Sparta. He farmed and also sold Dekalb seed and hauled milk. He later drove semi truck for Hilleshiem Trucking and was working at Allied Cooperative in West Salem.

David was a member of St. John’s Ev Lutheran Church, Sparta. He enjoyed his meeting with church members, riding ATV, and traveling out west with family and friends. 

David is survived by his wife, Celia of Sparta; children, Mary (Gary) Miller and Paul (Tricia) Meyer both of Sparta; granddaughters, Blair Miller and Dana (Gabe Hanson) Miller; grandson, Brandan (Kaitlin Wheeler) Meyer and Bryant (Rachel) Meyer; great grandson, Beau Meyer; sisters, Susan (Wendell) Williams of Mauston and Sandra (David) Lehmann of Hokah, MN; brothers, Ronald (Kathy) Meyer of Tomah and Darrell (Kathy) Meyer of Plano, IL; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judy Meyer; and granddaughter, Margo Meyer.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2022 at St. John’s Ev Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend Jon Hackbarth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. 

Family and friends are invited for visitation from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Monday at the church. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
