Obituary

David A. Myers, 84, of Sparta, died Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Tomah VA Medical Center, Tomah. He was born on March 6, 1939 in Dodgeville, WI to Avery and Margaret (Klar) Myers. He grew up in Platteville and attended Platteville High School.

After high school, he joined the US Air Force. He moved to Milwaukee after the service and attended MIT for art and sign painting. He married Geri Laack in 1963. Together they had four children; Trudy, Angie, Todd, and Ryan. In 1970, they moved to Prairie du Chien, where he worked at Wyalusing Academy for 17 years. He then owned and operated Tuckwood Arts and Antiques, in Eastman, WI, and later the Harbor House, in Lynxville, WI. David and Geri later divorced.

David married Linda Miller on July 29, 1995. He retired in 2005 and moved to Sparta. David continued his passion with art and collectables. David enjoyed working with clay and wood projects, with his hands and artistic imagination. He enjoyed playing cards, dice, reading books, watching Western movies, and was intrigued with local history. He enjoyed attending the Rendezvous in Prairie du Chien. Spending time with family and friends always brought a smile to his face.

David is survived by his wife, Linda of Sparta; children, Trudy (Rob) Joy of Eastman, WI, Todd (Susie) Myers of Holmen, Ryan (Kay) Myers of Stoughton, WI; stepchildren, Lori (Dave Laumb) Krage of Rushford, MN, Dave (Deb) Schultenover of Babcock Ranch, FL, Chris Schultenover of Chicago, Tim (Melissa) Schultenover of Sparta, and Julie Onshus of Cashton, WI; 11 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; siblings, Donna Lee Bennett of Ephraim, WI and Mary Roth of Carmel, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Angie (Myers) Slezak; step son in law, Mike Onshus; infant step grandson, Eric Schultenover; siblings, Rodney Myers and Charlene Myers; nephew, Aaron Roth; brothers-in-law, George Bennett and John Roth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Eric Berns officiating. Full military honors, provided by VFW Post 2112 and American Legion Post 100 of Sparta, will follow the service at the church.

Family and friends are invited for visitation 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday at the church. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
