DeWitt H. Woodworth, 83, of Sparta, died Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Tomah VA Medical Center. He was born in Sparta on August 25, 1942 to Donald and Mary (Standiford) Woodworth. He grew up in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School.
DeWitt served in the US Navy from 1960 until his honorable discharge in 1963. He worked at Northern Engraving in Sparta and Holmen. He was a member of the Sparta Eagles Club, Military Order of Cootie, and was Commander for the VFW Post 2112 of Sparta. He enjoyed playing golf, volunteering, and helping out in the community.
DeWitt is survived by his sons, DeWitt D. Woodworth of Sparta and Timothy Woodworth of Massachusetts; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mary; and siblings, Jean Womick, Nina Clark, Betty Sanders, Shirley White, Ellen Rameck, Jane Woodworth, Blanche Egebrecht, Gary Woodworth, Donald “Red” Woodworth, James Woodworth, Sally Gray, Alan Woodworth, and Sheila Heineck.
Full military honors, provided by VFW Post 2112 and American Legion Post 100, both of Sparta, will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at VFW Post 2112, 121 South Rusk Ave, Sparta. A celebration of life will continue after honors at the VFW from 12 noon until 3 p.m. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
