Dean G. Berry, 85, of Cataract, passed away February 17, 2020, at The Meadows Assisted Living Facility, Sparta.
Dean was born November 16, 1934 to the late Lenord and Gretchen (Cody) Berry in the Town of Little Falls, WI. After graduating from Sparta Senior High; while working for Elmer Bacon, Dean met his forever lifelong love, Elizabeth D. Peters. They married on July 21, 1953 in the parsonage of the Melrose United Methodist Church.
For about 4½ year; until poor health caused a change of position; he worked as owner/operator milk hauler for Hathaway Valley Dairy.
In 1957 Dean moved his family to Kenosha and went to work for American Motors/Chrysler Corp, retiring after 32 years. While working there he was a member in good standing of AFOA CIO, Local 72 and for 22 years served and held different union offices.
Dean was also owner/operator of Berry’s Auto and Repair Shop for approximately 4½ years.
In 1990, after Dean and his family lived in Kenosha for some 32 plus years; they returned to Cataract. There for some 4 years he worked at Our Own Hardware of Sparta. He then went to work for Case Re-manufacturing for approximately 6 years. Dean continued to stay busy for more years doing odd jobs and helping his many friends, while he was able, Dean always enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating along with taking numerous trips out west or you could find him working on a tractor or two.
Dean is survived by his two sons, Robert (Judy) Berry of Tampa, FL; and Eugene Berry and good friend, Jane Comstock, of Cataract; two granddaughters, Sarah Berry and Erin Berry of Tampa, FL. He is further survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Anita Berry of Neilsville and Ethel Hughes of Black River Falls. He also leaves many nephews and nieces and so very many friends.
In addition to his loving wife, Elizabeth, he was preceded in death by his parents, Lenord and Gretchen; his son Brian Scott Berry; his brother, Garmon and his sister and her husband, Gracia and Martin Leis.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2020 at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Pastor Robbi Nowicki officiating. Burial will be at a later time in Cataract Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered to the Berry family at www.schanhoferfh.com
Visitation for Dean will be at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
