Donald S. June

Donald S. June, 75, of Cataract died Saturday, October 21, 2023 at his home. He was born on November 14, 1947 to Stanley and Erna (Armitter) June in Milwaukee, WI.

Don served in the US Army from 1967 until 1969 and was stationed in Vietnam in 1968. He bought his family farm in 1980 and raised cash crops and beef cattle. He retired from farming in 1989 after a heart attack. He worked at NCR in West Salem and later at Golden Guernsey Dairy in Sparta. He worked 25 years for Gundersen Health System as a mechanical maintenance manager retiring in 2015.

Don married Diana Lyden in 1993 in Decorah, IA. Don enjoyed Lionel O Gauge model trains, Mopar cars, and collector of Mopar muscle cars. He bought his first car at age 12 which was a 1929 Model A Ford. He loved rock n’ roll music from the 50 and 60’s.

Donald is survived by his wife, Diana; children, James (Wendy Cote) Kroeger and Bridget (Allen) Banks; grandchildren, Matthew (Samantha) Kroeger and Jackson Banks; great-granddaughter, Mia Jo Kroeger; sister-in-law, Sally June; brother-in-law, John (Victoria Ozanich) Lyden; nieces, nephews, other relatives; friends; and his dog, Myles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Terry; brother, Dennis; and brother-in-law, Thomas Lyden.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Matthew Bowe officiating. Burial, with full Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #100 and VFW Post #2112 of Sparta, will be in Cataract Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow back at the church.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
