Donald D. Stelter, 92, of Sparta, died Friday, February 10, 2023 at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta, with family by his side. He was born on June 17, 1930 in Nekoosa, WI to William and Marvell (Hoffert) Stelter.
Donald married Cozette Miller on March 25, 1947, in Waukon, IA. They farmed in the Town of Clinton and lived in Dell before moving to Sparta in 1954. He worked for numerous construction companies including Peter Nelson and Sons Construction until his retirement in 1982. One of his most memorable projects was helping to build the Sparta High School.
Donald enjoyed gardening, traveling, camping and fishing.
Donald is survived by his children, Patricia Houp of Bainbridge, PA, Don (Stick) Stelter, Doug (Gloria) Stelter, Diana (Dennis) Puls, Debbie Overdahl, Randy Stelter, Rick Stelter, Ron Stelter, and Rita Eklov all of Sparta; grandchildren, Anthony Stelter of Sparta, Terry Houp, Jeff (Dawn) Houp, and Sheri (Wayne) Spies all of PA, Brian (Becky) Stelter of Minneapolis, Shelly (Bill) Cox of Tomah, Chris (Heather) Stelter of Sparta, Jennifer (Steve) Schemenauer of Woodbury, MN, Justin Puls of Holmen, Jamie Johnson of Wausau, Nick Johnson of West Salem, Jacoby (Jackie) Johnson of Tomah, Narissa Edmond of Sparta, Mark Stelter of Sparta, Ryan Stelter of Sparta, Karyssa (Jack Haldeman) Stelter of Holmen, Troy (Jennifer) Gilbertson of Bangor, Joshua (Elizabeth) Gilbertson of Sparta, Samantha Eklov of Port Edwards, Eddie (Kristen) Ikert III of Spencer, Jordan Ikert of Milwaukee, and Shane (Megan) Ikert of Sparta; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brothers, Bruce (Judy) Stelter of Sturgeon Bay and Jim (Hilda) Stelter of Janesville; sister-in-law, Phyllis Miller of FL; brother-in-law, Ronald (Pat) Miller of Janesville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 71 years, Cozette (Miller) Stelter; daughter, Rosalie Ikert; granddaughter, Rebecca Stelter; sons-in-law, Ed Ikert, Gary Overdahl, and Tom Houp; as well as several brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center and St.Croix Hospice for their excellent care of Don.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, with Pastor Brian Young officiating. Burial will be at a later time in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.
Family and friends are invited for visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com.
