Douglas D. Rhead

Douglas D. Rhead, 72, has gone to his Heavenly home. He passed away suddenly at his earthly home on August 10, 2021. He was born February 25, 1949 to Esther (Hageman) and Ross Rhead in Menomonie, WI. He attended Menomonie high school and UW Stout and UW- Eau Claire, where he graduated in 1972.

On February 13, 1971, he married Vicki Johnson. They were married 50 years. Doug worked for the federal government at Ft. A.P. Hill, VA; Fort McCoy and Badger Army Ammunition Plant.

Doug is survived by his wife Vicki, his son Jamie (Mandy) and their son Alex. He is also survived by his son Ryan (Stephanie) and their sons Gavin, Wesley and Samuel. Also surviving Doug are his mother-in-law Eldora Johnson, brother-in-law Dale Johnson, sister-in-law Shirley Rhead. His surviving nieces and nephews are Jennifer (Andy) Gable, Phil Rhead, Donnie (Linda) Rhead, Nicole (Dan) Kronzer, Kristyn (Tom) Taff and Bethany Johnson.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents Esther and Ross, brother Donovan Rhead, niece Jeanine Rhead, father-in-law Howard Johnson and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Doug was a very generous and honest man. He loved his family deeply and looked forward to big holiday dinners. Every minute he could, he spent with his grandsons. They held a very special place in his heart.

Doug’s passions, besides his family, were hunting on his land and out west; fishing, panning for gold and raising crops and beef cattle on the land he loved.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend John Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church or School.
