Duane H. Hobson

Duane Harry Hobson was born on October 11, 1938, in Leon, Wisconsin, to Gladys (Johnson) Hobson and Harry Hobson. He peacefully passed away at his residence on June 28, 2026, at the age of 87. Duane was married to Jane Ellen Jones on September 9, 1961. 

He served honorably in the United States Navy as an aircraft mechanic. Duane was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. He dedicated over 40 years as the Agriculture Manager of the Co-op Exchange. Additionally, Duane generously volunteered his time delivering Meals on Wheels to homebound individuals and assisted with distributions at the Second Harvest mobile food pantry. 

Duane enjoyed many hobbies, including his steadfast support of the Green Bay Packers. He treasured summers spent at the family cabin on the Castle Rock Flowage. During the winter months, he and his wife, Jane, traveled to Texas to escape the cold Wisconsin weather and spend time with friends. 

He was blessed with two sons, Scott and Kevin (Shirley), both of Sparta, Wisconsin; two granddaughters, Amanda Hobson of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and Rebecca (Ryan) Guldenaar of Sparta, Wisconsin; and one great-grandson, Remington Guldenaar of Sparta, Wisconsin. 

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Harry Hobson; his in-laws, Mildred and Thad Jones; two sisters, Margie (Floyd) Moser and Eloise (Dewy) Reinstra; and his daughter-in-law, Shirley Hobson. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the United Methodist Church in Sparta, with Reverend Lourdes Magalhaes officiating. Burial, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 and American Legion post 100, both of Sparta, will follow at Leon Cemetery in Leon. A luncheon will be provided after the service at the church.
