Elizabeth J. Heilman, 86, of Cashton, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Emplify Health Gundersen, La Crosse. She was born on May 10, 1939 to Harold and Evelyn (Seekamp) Steinhoff. She grew up in the Sparta/Cashton area. She graduated from Cashton High School.
After graduating, she worked at Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company in Milwaukee, for 3 years. While living in Milwaukee, she attended many Brewers games. She moved back to the Sparta area, and started dating Dale Heilman. They were married on January 28, 1961 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, in Sparta. Together, they ran the family farm until they retired.
Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with her family, and playing cards. She spent many years going to auctions, and loved rummage sales.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Theresa Heilman of Cashton, and Kevin (Mary) Heilman of Sparta; 4 grandchildren, Amy Brueggeman, Kelly (Jason) Schmitz, Stacy (Mike) Bullen, and Terri (Kevin) Laufenberg; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Deloris Squire, Mary Jane Foster, and Alice Hatfield; brothers, Vernon Steinhoff, Richard Steinhoff, Eugene Steinhoff, and Harold Steinhoff Jr.; and brother-in-law, Ray Hatfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; parents, Harold and Evelyn Steinhoff; brother, Donald Steinhoff; and sisters, Janet Von Ruden, Joyce Mlsna, and Sandra Raley.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Eric Berns officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church basement. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Sparta.
A Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, to be distributed to Elizabeth’s favorite charities. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
