Floyd “Boots” D. Knoll, 89 of Sparta, died peacefully Friday, July 26, 2019 at his home. He was born on November 18, 1929 in Big Creek, Monroe County, Wisconsin to Paul and Augusta (Schultz) Knoll. He grew up in the Big Creek area on the family farm and attended Sparta schools.
Boots married Kathleen Tucker on November 26, 1949 at the Methodist Parsonage in Sparta. Boots worked for 25 years as a machinist for United Auto Supply in Sparta. He also farmed beef and dairy. Kathleen passed away in 2006.
Boots loved baseball. He coached and managed the E&B amateur baseball team in the 50’s and 60’s. He enjoyed watching baseball games, especially his grandson, Josh play. He was a member of St. John’s Ev Lutheran Church, Sparta Eagles Club, and the Western Wisconsin Country Music Association.
Boots is survived by his children, Paul (Kim) Knoll of Sparta and Darlene (John) Hamilton of Valparaiso, IN; his grandchildren, Joshua Knoll and Rhonda Taylor; five great grandchildren, Remington Taylor, Jessica Osterkamp, Christina Hicks, Devin McCoy, Manny Perez III; two sisters, Violet Good and Elsie DuBoise; a brother, Eugene “Skinny” Knoll; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen; a granddaughter, Charlene Perez; and 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at St. John’s Ev Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend John Meyer officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 will be in the church cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the church.
