Frances M Field

Frances Field, 101, of Sparta, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in La Crosse. She was born on October 7, 1921 in Madison, WI to Raymond and Margaret Corcoran. She graduated from West High School in Madison.

Fran loved to dance; and it was here that she met Thomas K. Field in 1939.  Tom and Fran were united in marriage in 1941.

While Tom was in the service, she spent time in Chicago, Little Rock, AR, and DeRidder, LA before returning to Madison with her son, Jim.

Fran was employed at Oscar Mayer, in charge of Accounts Receivable, until moving Tom transferred from the Madison VA (due to its closing) to the Tomah VA. She worked as a Requisition Clerk in Ordinance, at Fort McCoy until they downsized. She then went to work at Monroe County Relief Department in 1954, which is now known as Monroe County Department of Human Services, as Economic and Agency Support Administrator.   Fran retired in 1985.  After retirement, Tom and Fran spent the next ten years wintering in El Paso, TX.

Together, Tom and Fran raised three sons: James, Joseph, and John.  They were happily married for 71 years.  Frances enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing bridge, and many happy hours spent with Dance Group friends. She taught country western line dancing, and enjoyed working on her yard.

Fran was a member of St. Pat’s Ladies Aid, American Legion, and Honorary Life Membership WSSA (WI Social Services Association).

Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, in 2012; her parents; sister, Kathleen; sister-in-law, Alice; father-in-law, Adolph Field; and daughter-in-law, Pam Field.

She is survived by her sons, James (Josie) of El Paso, TX, Joseph of Sparta, WI, and John of Sparta, WI; granddaughters, Joselyn and Amy; and grandson, Andrew.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Don’s Super Restaurant from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Memories shared at 11 am. All are Welcome!
