Gladys M. Peters

Gladys M. Peters, 93, of Sparta, died Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. She was born, the oldest of seven, on October 23, 1928 to Sylvester and Florence (Brey) Brueggeman. She grew up in the Sparta area.

Gladys married George J. Peters on September 14, 1946 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta. They had 4 children.

Gladys worked at La Crosse Glass Company, Sparta Northern Engraving, and retired from Fort McCoy. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing Yahtzee and euchre, and trips to the casino to play Bingo with her brother. She loved holiday meals and family gatherings.

Gladys is survived by her son, Steve (Janice) Peters of Sparta; 9 grandchildren; many great and great great grandchildren; brother, Everett Brueggeman of Sparta; sister, Eileen (Ron) Rasmussen of Rockland; and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; daughter, Jeannette Edgell-Brueggen; sons, LeRoy and Wayne; grandchildren, Lisa, Shawn, and Tiffany; great granddaughter, Jessie; brothers, LaVerne, Ivan, and Gerald; and sister, Darlene Steinbrink.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, with Father Eric Berns officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Sparta.

Family and friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
