Harold L. Stewart

     Harold Lloyd Stewart, 86 years old, formerly of Tallahassee, FL, passed away peacefully among family and friends, May 1, 2021, at the Morrow Home Nursing Care in Sparta, WI.

     He was born August 8, 1934, in Tallahassee, FL, to Gabe W., and Doris (Griffith) Stewart, Sr. On November 11, 1956, Harold married Virginia Anne Cook and she preceded him in death in 1980. In 1952, he graduated from Leon High School and four years later graduated from Florida State University in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and worked as a small business owner in life insurance, furniture sales, and president for several nursing homes. Until his passing, he remained a die-hard Seminole fan, proudly displaying their colors and watching football games. As a student, he even played college football with Burt Reynolds, who was known as “Buddy” Reynolds at the time. 

     Harold was a veteran of the United States Army having served from July 6, 1956 until being honorably discharged April 15, 1961, at the rank of Captain. He served during the Cold War patrolling the East German/Czech (Soviet Union) Borders from Amberg, West Germany. He returned to Tallahassee, FL and lived his life loving and being loved by family, despite the difficult times life brings. He was an avid camper, hunter, fisherman, and dirt bike rider. He also loved snow and water skiing. In his youth, he skied with the Cypress Gardens Water Ski Team in Winter Haven, FL and took great joy in teaching his children. Throughout his life, he looked for ways to support the community through the Kiwanis, Tallahassee Springtime Parade Board, and many other community pride events. He always loved animals and grew up with horses, cows, chickens, and dogs.

     The family would also like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to all the first and second floor caregivers and culinary professionals at the Morrow Home and simply say thank you for all they did for Harold during his stay at the Morrow Home and in his final days. We also wish to extend a special thanks to his adult sitters who ensured he wanted for nothing – Kassie Cortese, Rhonda Krantz, Ashley Pulvermacher, and his surrogate grandchild, Dominick De Los Santos.

     Survivors include his sister, Carole (Kip) Ridley; daughter, Pam (Steve) Jackson; two sons, Harold L. “Hal” (Rhonda) Stewart, II, and Brad (Miriam) Stewart; grandchildren, Eli (Cindie) Proctor, Stewart Proctor, Crystal Stewart, Anna Barnett, Lloyd (Velvet) Stewart (Harold L. Stewart, III), and Olivia Stewart; and two great-grandchildren, Caroline Barnett and Charlotte Ann Stewart.

     In addition to his wife, Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Gabe and Doris Stewart, Jr., and his sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Doug Pichard. 

     There are currently no services planned in the Sparta area; however, the family will plan graveside services in Tallahassee, FL with details to follow. 

     In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in Harold’s name to the Morrow Memorial Home for the Aged to help the caregivers and nursing assistants, who give tirelessly day-in and day-out to ensure the residents get the best care. Harold loved his caregivers and they equally loved him, as well as, working with him.  He was always quick-witted, bringing smiles to those around him. Mail donations to 331 S.
