Helen R Olson

Helen T. Olson, 85, of Sparta passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at her family home in Sparta. She was born on January 17, 1940, in Princeton, New Jersey to Michael and Caroline (Rosso) Tamasi. She grew up in Princeton and graduated high school there.

In 1968 she met Kent Olson in Princeton, married and moved to Sparta shortly thereafter. Together they had three children. She began her career with the Monroe County Law Enforcement as a Matron in the early 1980’s eventually becoming a Dispatcher until her retirement in 2004, but she continued to work part time until 2010.

She loved sharing stories of her adventures as a young woman in New Jersey, including her time as Ms. Asbury Park. A devoted Green Bay Packers fan, she naturally took on the role of head cheerleader during family game days.

She is survived by three sons, Chris, Brian and Eric (Sue Iverson); grandchildren, Damon Olson, Mitch (Mindy) Larson and Katie (Brandt Wojak) Larson; great-grandchildren, Grace and Norah Larson; sister Carol; and many nieces and nephews including the daughter she never had, Gabrielle Protinick, John Gianacaci and Kathy Olson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Angie, Carmela, Ida, Marion, Mary and 3 brothers, Angelo, Anthony and James.

It was Helen’s wish to be cremated and reside with her family. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Helen’s life at her son and daughter-in-law’s home at 20216 County Hwy. AA, Sparta, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 12th.
