Helen M. Vian, 77, of Sparta passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Our Town Tomah Assisted Living, in Tomah; with her son, Charles Vian, by her side. She was born on September 12, 1948; into a family of 26 siblings. She grew up in the Sparta/Angelo area.
Helen fell in love with Eugene Vian Sr., and they married on October 2, 1965. Together, they had 7 children. Helen was a stay-at-home Mom for many years. She also worked at Northern Engraving.
Helen was a head-strong woman, and raised her children well. She loved God and she prayed daily.
Helen loved to bake. She always had a big Thanksgiving meal; ready when her husband and boys came home. She enjoyed watching her two grandsons doing Pettie Pulles. She was always full of love. She was also a huge fan of the Packers, and was known for slapping the table when she got excited.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and adopted parents; her husband, Eugene L. Vian Sr.; siblings, Ruth Vian, Jerry Oyer, Jack Oyer; grandchildren, Cheyenne Vian, Aria Vian, Asa Vian, Josh Vian, Colton Vian, and Allen Vian; as well as many other Vians.
She is survived by her children, Charles (Mindi), Nancy (David), Eugene Jr. (Chris), Jenny, Penny (Bill), Helen Mae, and Velma; her grandchildren, Brayden, Malakai, Kameryn, Laney, Riley, Zedadiah, Henry, Richie, Jesse, Tiffany, Sarah, David Jr., and Kaddy; great-grandchildren; and siblings, Nancy Lord, and Bill Oyer; and 5 adopted grandkids, Bobbie Joe, Tray, Andrew, Hayley, and Taylor.
A Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta. Burial will be in Farmers Valley Cemetery, in Angelo.
A Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at the funeral home, and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday.
