Irene C. Aspeslet

Irene C. Aspeslet, 83, of Sparta, WI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Sparta, escaping the pain of a recent cancer diagnosis.  She was born December 3, 1938, in Harvard, IL, to Charles and Marie (O’ Brien) Bourdage.

She married Norman Aspeslet on December 30, 1960, in Elkhorn, WI and lived in Harvard, IL, until they moved to Sparta, WI, in 2000. Irene was a lifelong homemaker, a loving wife, and proud mother.  She was part of the Ladies Auxiliary for Harvard Moose Lodge #1289, where both she and her husband were members. Irene was a spunky lady who enjoyed life as much as she did a great game of dice, particularly 6-5-4!  She adored the camaraderie of friends, new and old, during time spent at the local VFW and American Legion.

Irene is survived by her son, Steve Aspeslet of Roscoe, IL, family friend a/k/a her "other son" Steve Cropp of Belvidere, IL; siblings: Kathryn Lindell of Albuquerque, NM, Edward Bourdage of Crystal Lake, IL; sister-in-law, Marion Olson of Rockland, WI, brother-in-law Tim Aspeslet of Stoddard, WI; many nieces and nephews; very special friends: Laurie & Rick Coffin of Sparta, and Butch Jandt of Sparta.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; siblings: Charles Jr., Robert, Leo, Francis, Mary, Loretta, and Dorthy.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, with Father Eric Berns officiating. Burial will be at a later date where she will rest eternally near her beloved Norm in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Harvard, IL.

Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10 AM until 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home and a social gathering immediately following the service at the American Legion in Sparta. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
