Jack H. Benning

Jack H. Benning, 89, of Sparta, died on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. He was born on May 8, 1935 in Mondovi to Joseph and Mayme (Olson) Benning. He grew up in Mondovi and graduated from Mondovi High School in 1953.

Jack served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Gelnhausen, Germany from 1958 until he was honorably discharged in February of 1960. After his discharge, Jack obtained an Associates Degree in Accounting. He moved to Sparta in 1962. He married Joanne Wilkie on October 27, 1962 in Eau Claire.

Jack worked as a supervisor in the Order Department at Northern Engraving until his retirement in 2004, after 42 years.

Jack enjoyed watching sports, especially the Brewers and Packers.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne of Sparta; children, Scott (Jane) Benning of Los Alamitos, CA and Lisa Benning of Mankato, MN; grandchildren, Sarah and Rachel Benning; brother, George (Julie) Benning of Mondovi; sister-in-law, Carol Benning of Eau Claire; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, James Benning.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend Josh Buzbee officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, following the service.

A Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to The Trinity Lutheran Endowment Fund or Gundersen Medical Foundation. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
