Janella N.A. Johnson, 88, of Sparta, passed away Friday, October 16, 2020, at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem, after a short battle with cancer. She was born December 4, 1931, to Helmer and Nilda (Ramsey) Hendrickson in Black River Falls, WI.
Janella lived on a farm in Mill Creek near Melrose, WI where she attended Mill Creek School through eighth grade. She moved to Sparta and attended Sparta High School. Janella was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sparta in 1945. She married John “Bud” Johnson on August 20, 1949. Bud preceded her in death on January 6, 2010.
Janella worked at Wisconsin Child Center, Rolling Hills, St. Mary’s Hospital in Sparta, and was a homemaker. She was very active along with her husband. She enjoyed bicycling, gardening and walking. Another pastime was crocheting, as she made several quilts. Janella loved to work in her garden and the many flowers she planted. She belonged to the bible class at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church.
Janella is survived by her three sons, David (Cheryl) Johnson, of Negaunee, MI; Daniel (Theresa) Johnson, of Oakdale; and Eric Johnson, of Sparta; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Rebecca Johnson, of Negaunee, MI; and Corey Johnson, of Bangor. She is further survived by a great-granddaughter, Hadley Johnson; a sister, Naomi (George) Painter, of Willard, OH; a brother, Allen (Grace) Hendrickson, of Arkdale, WI; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husband, Bud and parents, Helmer and Nilda, Janella was preceded in death by her sister, LaVanche Berry.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend John Meyer officiating. Please note there will be no luncheon following the service. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta. Facial coverings are optional.
