Janet D. Olson

Janet Dawn Olson, 90, of Sparta, WI passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at her home. She was born November 10, 1933 to Frank and Lillie Schroeder, in Norwalk, WI. Janet was raised in Sparta, and graduated from Sparta High School in 1951.

Janet married Elroy Olson on November 15, 1952. Together they had 3 children: Rosemary Barney of Burbank, CA, Virginia (Randy) Roerig of Marathon, WI, and Dawn Benoit of Sparta.

Janet worked for Monroe County Human Services for 34 years. She was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Sparta, the VFW Post 2112 Ladies Auxiliary. She also volunteered for many years at the Tomah VA Hospital; providing BINGO and snacks to the veterans.

Janet enjoyed bowling, volunteering, playing cards, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children; brother, Douglas (Mary) Schroeder; grandchildren, Matthew (Amy) Roerig, Joseph (Mindy) Roerig, Justin (Heather) Benoit, Kristy (Bill) Shepard, Erica Barney, and Lindsay (Josh) Stern; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elroy; sister, Roxeen Woodard; and grandson, Derick Benoit.

The family would like to thank Gundersen Hospice for their wonderful care.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, with Reverend Micah Schoeneck officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Sparta; with a luncheon to follow, at the church.

Family and friends are invited for a visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, at the church.
