Jeanette E. Selbrede

Jeanette Eileen Selbrede, 85, of Sparta, died Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse. She was born on February 22, 1936, in New Lyme, Monroe County, WI, to Victor and Anna (Reise) Rowan.

Jeanette attended Prescott School for a year, Bush Prairie School for 7 years, and graduated from Sparta High School. She attended Cosmetology School in Milwaukee. She worked in a beauty shop and at Piggly Wiggly in La Crosse for 3 years.

Jeanette married Duane Selbrede on June 23, 1956. After helping on the farm for many years, she took a CNA class and worked at Morrow Memorial Home for 15 years.

Jeanette was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. John’s Ladies Aid, Wisconsin Farm Bureau Women’s Association, 4-H leader, Leon Gator Fest, and Leon Garden Club. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Duane of Sparta; 4 children, Greg (Kim) Selbrede, Debra (Randy) Abbott, Dan (special friend, Deb Geier) Selbrede all of Sparta, and Kent (Kelly) Selbrede, of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Nick (special friend, Rachel Schroeder) Abbott, Nathan (Tracy) Abbott, Ryan (Lindsey) Selbrede, Courtney (special friend, Kyle Kirchner) Selbrede, Jared (Alyse) Selbrede all of Sparta, and Alyssa Selbrede of Seattle, WA;11 great grandchildren; sisters, Joyce (Art) Henry of Sparta, Luella (Jim) DeVoe and Susan (Ron) Holme both from Tomah; brother, Herb (Margaret) Rowan of Sparta; and brother-in-law, Herb Selbrede of Sparta.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lucille Rowan; brother and sister-in-law, Howard (Nancy) Rowan; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Harold (Pat) Selbrede, Bernice Selbrede, Irene (Bill) Myers, and Dorothy (George) Heuer, and 2 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Pastor Jon Hackbarth officiating. Burial will be at a later time.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leon Community Center, Leon.  Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
