JoAnne Shawley, 77, of Sparta, passed away on November 5th, 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
JoAnne was born in Stillwater, MN in 1947 to Elizabeth and Warren Roettger. She met Clifton Shawley and married on October 9, 1965, and had three wonderful daughters. Cliff and JoAnne had an adventurous life together. They owned their own painting business (Shawley’s Painting), traveled with the River City 4-wheel drive club they belonged to and many weekends were spent camping, drag racing, and hill climbing at several 4X4 truck events. After several years of operating their own business, they were hired on and worked 25 years for a Florida based company, H. Angelo, Inc. With this company they traveled all over the U.S. and painted at several military installations and made many lifelong friends in the process. After retirement they became snowbirds for six years before they finally settled down in Sparta, WI, where they have spent the last few years going to garage sales and a trip to the casino every now and then.
JoAnne is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Warren Roettger; granddaughter, Sarah Shawley; five sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Clifton Shawley; daughters, Roxanne (Michael) Leis, Tammy (Brent) Johnson, and Joie (Larry) Stark; eight grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Kathy, Norma, Marlene, and Carol; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at American Legion Post 439 in Melrose. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
