Joan M. Koltermann

Joan Marie (Dinger) Koltermann, 81, of Sparta, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023 at Tomah Care Center in Tomah. She was born on October 13, 1942 to Matthew and Marie (Steinhoff) Dinger.

Joan was a 1960 graduate of Norwalk High School. On September 30, 1961 she married Gerald Koltermann. Together, they had 4 children. In addition to being a farm wife, Joan worked at Spartek for a number of years. She was a member of the Farmer’s Valley Homemaker’s Club, and the Ladies Aid at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Joan was an avid card player, and enjoyed many crafts, especially quilt making and canvas.

Joan is survived by her husband, Gerald; daughters, Nancy (Stan) Spivey, Patsy (Allen) Thurston, and Barb (Paul) Winslow; daughter-in-law, Cindy Koltermann; grandchildren, Jennifer Renfel-Englert, Cynthia (Josh) Lydon, Donita (Josh) Meyer, Alyssa Clapper, Ryan Winslow, Rebecca Winslow, Kelly Spivey, and Kyle (Emilea) Spivey; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by Irene and Leon Leis (Kate, Travis, and Krissy), Cliff Leis (Tom, Todd, and Jenny), Shirley Hansen (Kiley), Roy (Clarice) Koltermann, Art (Pat) Koltermann, Lois Olson, Lorraine Mael, Pat Koltermann; and many nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald; sister, Jean; brothers-in-law, Willard, Frank, Emil, Roland, David, Willy John, and George; and sisters-in-law, Beverly, Kathleen, and Carmen.  

A Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend Steve Olson officiating. Burial will be at a St. John’s Cemetery, Sparta.

A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, and 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, at the church.
