Joyce Morrell Obituary

Joyce M. Morrell was called home to be with her heavenly father on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse, at the age of 83 years. She was the daughter of Elmer and Bernice (Hanke) Hackbart. Joyce lived most of her childhood in Coloma, WI.

Joyce graduated from Westfield High School. After high school, she moved to Milwaukee. While in Milwaukee, she met and married Gus Landgraff Jr. From this union four children were born, Connie, Cheryl, Chris and Curt. The family lived in Franksville, WI, Monticello, WI, Monroe, WI and most of her adult life in Sparta, WI. This union ended after seventeen years of marriage.

Joyce married Richard (Dick) Morrell Sr. on March 26, 1977. To this union Joyce gained two step children, Richard (Rick) Morrell II and Maureen. Joyce and Dick were married 39 years and 11 months. Dick passed away in February of 2017.

Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, watching movies on Turner Classics, playing cards, fishing, camping, traveling the United States, playing Bingo and the occasional slot machine, going to breakfast, afternoon pie and coffee, and Friday night Fish Fry’s with her friends. She was on the go all the time. Joyce was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Joyce is survived by her children, Connie (Scott) Jerome of Sparta, Cheryl (Dave) Slezewski of Sun Prairie, WI, Chris (Shelley) Landgraff and Curt (Mary Watters) Landgraff all of Onalaska, WI; her grandchildren, Brian Leis, Eric Jandt, Danelle Jandt, Kelly Jo Clark, Samantha Clark, Rachel (Ryan) Murphy, Alexis Landgraff, and Cole Landgraff; step granddaughter, Melissa (Tyrone) Krueger of Sparta; her great grandchildren, McKenzie, Madelynn, Exavier, Paxton, Jayden and Hadley; step great grandchildren, Darius & Alecia; her step-children, Richard (Rick) Morrell and Maureen McDonald both of Pocatello, Idaho; her step-grandchildren, Christin Turner, Erin (John) O’Connor, Bobbie Gomez, Austin Morrell, Alex Morrell, Logan Fagnant, Joshua McDonald; her step-great grandchildren, Lillian, Elizabeth, Vincent, Michael, and Gavin; her siblings, Raymond Hackbart of Coloma, WI, Richard (Judy) Hackbart of Ripon, WI, and Carole (Denver) Wright of Iola, WI and sister-in-law, Colleen Hackbart of Zimmerman, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews. Joyce also had some wonderful friends who will miss her dearly: Lena, Connie, Bev, Shirley and Shorty, her breakfast and afternoon pie ladies groups.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick) Morrell; parents, Elmer and Bernice (Hanke) Hackbart; brother, Elroy Hackbart; and sister-in-law, LuAnn Hackbart.

We will always remember mom by her infectious laugh, the way she made people smile, her warm caring spirit and her favorite thing to yell “BINGO”!
