Lois O. Sacia, 78, of Melrose passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family, after a battle with cancer. Lois was born December 5, 1945, in Black River Falls, WI, to Lloyd and Ovidia (Paulson) Murray. She attended Pleasant Valley School in the Town of Irving for grades one through six and later attended Melrose Junior High and High School, graduating in 1963. She enjoyed being a cheerleader, a class officer, and participating in other school activities.
Following graduation, she attended Wood County Teachers College in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, graduating in 1965 with a teaching license for grades one through eight. She later received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Wisconsin State University-La Crosse and taught at Hamilton and Summit Schools in La Crosse, WI.
On June 15, 1968, Lois married Michael Sacia in Black River Falls, WI. They welcomed into their home a daughter, Michelle, and son, Laremy. In the spring of 1976 the family moved to Sandberg Road, near North Bend, WI. Lois was a stay-at-home mom for several years and later became employed by the Melrose-Mindoro School District as an aide. She loved working with the students and staff and often talked about the fond memories she had, retiring in 2003. Eventually, Lois and Mike moved to Melrose.
Lois was very dedicated to her church, St. Kevin’s Catholic Church in Melrose. She was active in the Parish Council of Catholic Women, a strong voice for the Kevinettes, and worked with her husband as custodians for the church for several years. She was a member of Neil S. Lewison American Legion Post #439 Auxiliary, where she served in various roles. Above and beyond, Lois loved her flowers. She spent many hours from spring until late fall caring for her lawn, making it beautiful for all those who travelled through Melrose. Lois, along with Mike, enjoyed welcoming family members into their home for numerous gatherings, especially for a July 4th picnic. Lois was known for her delicious brownies and fudge that she shared with many.
Lois is survived by her husband Mike of 56 years; daughter Michelle (Craig) Franzmeier; granddaughters, Lokella and Madeline Franzmeier; daughter-in-law, Jodi Sacia; grandson, Rylan Sacia and granddaughter Deanna Sacia; sisters: Marlene Reineking, Joanne (Ken) Patterson, Elaine Musser; sister-in-law Mary (Bill) Christen; brothers-in-law, Jim (Jenny) Sacia; Tom Sacia; Dan (Carol) Sacia; Tim (Mary) Sacia, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
