Loraine L. Busse

Loraine L. Busse, 95, of Melrose, died Friday, May 30, 2025 at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse.  She was born on December 28, 1929 in Sparta, WI to Franz and Jessie (Van der Schaaf) Schamens. She grew up on a farm and graduated from Sparta High School and UW L.

Loraine married Lester Busse on September 6, 1953 at her parent’s home. They had one daughter, Carolyn. Together they farmed near Melrose. After her husband’s death, she moved into Melrose.

She was volunteer driver for Jackson County DHHS for over 30 years. She also did other volunteering jobs and taught Sunday School at St. Paul’s Ev Lutheran Church in Melrose.

Loraine is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Busse of La Crosse; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews; and many “borrowed” grandkids.

She was proceeded in death by parents; husband, Lester Busse and siblings, Eileen Schamens, Marlow Schamens, and Lois Butler.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at St. Paul’s Ev Lutheran Church, Melrose with Pastor Chad Seybt officiating. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Ev Lutheran Church or to Jackson County Animal Shelter. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
