Lucy A. Kowalski

     Lucy A. Kowalski, 84, of Sparta, died Thursday, April 22, 2021, at BridgePath Assisted Living, Sparta. She was born on June 11, 1936, in Sparta, to Walter and Victoria (Kot) Kowalski.

     She graduated Sparta High School in 1953. Lucy went on to receive her diploma from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Chicago, Ill, and her B.S.N. from Viterbo College, La Crosse, WI.  She worked at the VA Medical Centers in Milwaukee and Tomah, WI, and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Lucy had 31 years of government service, including with the 44th General Hospital Unit (reserve status). She retired in 1992 from the VA in Tomah, WI as an Instructor in Nursing Education.

     Lucy is survived by her nephew, Jeffrie (Lisa) Kowalski of Appleton, WI; and niece, Victoria (Larry) Martin of Madison, WI.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leonard Kowalski, sister, Theresa Kowalski; aunts, uncles, and cousins.

     The family would like to thank the staff at BridgePath Memory Care Assisted Living and The Tomah Hospice nurses for their loving care and compassion.  

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, April 29, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Eric Berns officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic cemetery.

     Family and friends are invited to call from 10 A.M. until time of services on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Sparta. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
