Lyle E. Johnson

Lyle E. Johnson, 91, of Sparta, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at his home. He was born on April 27, 1934 to Evelyn and Melvin (Pete) Johnson, in the town of Burns. He married the love of his life, Kathryn Boots, in Sparta, on September 17, 1955. They shared 64 years of marriage, before her passing in January, 2020.

Lyle worked at the Sparta Co-op for 34 years before he retired. After retirement, he would haul gravel or just drive dump truck for the Antony Brothers, to keep himself busy. He was always there to help his family when they needed it. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Lyle is survived by his daughter, Pamela (Steven) Buckhannon; son, David Johnson (fiancé Colette Kirkeeng); five grandchildren, Joe Shawley, James Johnson, Josh (Marie) Johnson; Tabitha (Michael) Repinski, and Katy Johnson; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Audry Buckstone; sister-in-law, Helen (Hugo) Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn (Boots) Johnson; daughter, Deborah Hays; son, Lyle D. Johnson; 1 great-grandchild; sister, Diana Brant; brother, Melvin (Nookie) Johnson; brother-in-law, Robert Lounsbrough; and his parents.

A special thank you to his great-grandchildren, Faith Losic, Marshall Losic (Bianca Edwards), and Liberty Losic for taking care of him over the last 5 years. Also, Tabitha (Michael) Repinski.

Also, a special thank you to the Hospice Center at Gundersen, for all the support and care they provided during our time of need.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, with Pastor Josh Buzbee officiating. Burial will be in Burns Cemetery, with a luncheon following at the funeral home.

A Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home.
