Lynette Hering Obituary

Lynette K. Hering of Sparta, WI - Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the age of 70, after a courageous battle with Cancer. She was a light and gift to everyone she encountered.

Lynette was born on September 11, 1952, in Shelley, ID to Don and Lorna (Cox) Esplin and was the oldest of six children. She was raised in Idaho on the family potato farm where she developed a fierce work ethic that followed her throughout her life. There was no task she couldn’t take on and successfully accomplish. She was determined and driven in all aspects of her life. Lynette was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she faithfully served in various callings. She was blessed with a servant’s heart, where even in debilitating times, including her brave battle with cancer, Lynette chose to serve those around her. She will always be lovingly remembered as a wonderful friend and confidant, a woman of wisdom and great faith, a loving and patient mother who was “always there” for her children, and a devoted wife who loved her husband, Robin, with all her heart.

Lynette’s life was full of ups and downs, but her faith was unwavering. She always put her trust in God’s hands, knowing He would bless her. Lynette’s faith and devotion to her four children helped her move forward when she found herself as a single mother. With grace and dignity, she charted a new course. Lynette always placed the needs of her children first and often went without as she struggled to support them. Through tough times and better days, she moved forward with courage and faith gracing everyone around her with that big smile of hers...oh, and her famous chocolate chip cookies!

Little did Lynette know that God had an even better plan for her. When Lynette began working for Dr. Robert (Robin) G. Hering, she had no idea that he was God’s answer to prayer for her and that he would become the love of her life. Lynette and Robin were married September 10, 1994 and spent nearly 30 years creating one of the most beautiful love stories ever told. They spent almost every hour of their 30 years together, whether side by side at work, running their dental practice in Neenah, WI or at play, enjoying the same hobbies of hunting and fishing, they did it all TOGETHER. Any observant person would quickly conclude their bond is one of intense commitment, uncompromising loyalty, and supreme devotion. Among her many accomplishments and qualities as a person, Lynette’s story and legacy will always begin with her love for Robin.

After retirement, they settled on a beautiful piece of property nestled on the outskirts of Sparta, WI, and built their dream home. They worked hard to create their own piece of heaven that is enjoyed not only by them, but their children and grandchildren. Their home was, and remains, a place where peace and love abound, and all who visit can feel the love they created together. In 2021, Lynette’s greatest wish was fulfilled when she and Robin solemnized their marriage in the St. Paul Minnesota Temple, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Because of the sacred covenant’s they made to each other and with God, in His holy house, we know Lynette and Robin’s love story will continue after this life and our family will all be reunited.

Lynette’s legacy as a mother and grandmother will be forever evident. She showed her love by sharing her gifts, her interests, and her values with her family. Lynette was never a dictatorial parent. She explained. She advised. She taught. And then led by example. Her life was one of self-discipline, self-governance, and self-reliance and she taught and encouraged the same. She not only showed her children but taught them the importance of hard work and making a positive contribution to the world. When they found themselves in a “self-made situation,” her “NMP” (not my problem) attitude encouraged them to take responsibility and get themselves out of the situation.

Lynette is preceded in death by her parents, her younger brother Brent Esplin, and her infant grandson Turner Crocker (with whom we know she had a glorious reunion).

Lynette is survived by her loving husband, Robin (Sparta, WI), their six children, Shannon (Hering) Styes (Bart), Jon Kelly (Alisa), Bryan Hughes (Cassandra), Derek Hughes, Brandon Hughes (Katie), and Desiree (Hughes) Crocker (Dave), her three sisters, Sharon Archer, Barbara Phillips, and Louise Poulsen, and brother, Steve Esplin. Lynette also leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren whom she loved dearly and held close to her heart.

The family invites all who loved Lynette to come and celebrate her life on Saturday October 14, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 701 Well Street in Onalaska, WI 54650. Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. with services beginning at 1 p.m.
