Marian L. Rhodenhizer

Marian L. (Morgan) Rhodenhizer, 100, of Sparta, died Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta, WI. She was born July 17, 1918 to the late Spencer and Ruth (Fanning) Morgan in Sparta.

Marian grew up in the Big Creek, WI.  She was an avid 4-H Club member and taught Sunday School at the family’s Big Creek Methodist Church.  Marian has continued to volunteer and serve on committees as a life-long member of the United Methodist Church.  With Marian’s true faith, she has sincerely touched the lives of everyone she has met.  As God’s beloved angel on earth, she loved everyone. 

Marian graduated from Sparta High School.  She married John Rhodenhizer on October 12, 1940 in Sparta.  John preceded her in death on October 23, 2003.  Marian worked for the Monroe County Telephone Co.  She continued to volunteer so much of her time to many different organizations, even receiving a presidential award for doing so.  Marian was passionate about being a homemaker, raising her children, and enjoying all her grandchildren.  She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, and nature.  Marian was well known for her sewing, cooking, baking, and canning.  Special doughnuts were made for cousins.

Marian is survived by her six children, Stan (Mary) Rhodenhizer, of Sparta; Dan (Virginia) Rhodenhizer, of Sparta; Emily (Gary) Craig, of Mindoro; Julie Reed, of La Crosse; Mark (Gloria) Rhodenhizer, of Sparta; and Lois (Don) Marsh,of Stoughton. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Lisa, John, Tina, Sherry, Brian, Zach, Nicole, Sarah, Matt, and Luke; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Spencer and Ruth; a grandchild, Theresa Rhodenhizer; her siblings, Harley (Beatrice) Morgan; Hugh Morgan; and Vern Morgan; Dorothy (Dale) Smith; JoAnn (Oral) Vancil; and Chauncey “Bub” Morgan; and a son in law, Walter Reed.

A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, February 11, at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta with a lunch being served right after the service. Burial will be in Big Creek Union Cemetery, Rural Sparta, WI.
