Marie C. Wacker

Marie Catherine (Schieffert) Wacker of Sparta, passed away on January 4, 2021 at the Morrow Home Nursing Home at the age of 96.  Marie was born on April 18, 1924 to Edward and Anna (Herr) Schieffert in Brown County, (Sleepy Eye) MN. 

Marie grew up on a farm near Sleepy Eye, MN.  She married Louis H. Wacker on October 10, 1945 at St. Mary’s Church in Sleepy Eye.  After their marriage they farmed the Wacker family farm on St. Mary’s Ridge near Norwalk.  They moved back to Sleepy Eye in 1947 and farmed there until 1961.  In 1961 they returned to Wisconsin and farmed on Bush Prairie, near Sparta. Marie said she would return to Wisconsin to farm, as long they could find a farm with no rocks. They retired in 1978 but continued to live in the country near the farm.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, a 4-H leader and member of several Homemaker groups.

Marie developed a love for quilting after all the kids were grown and she had time.  Each grandchild received a hand quilted, queen size quilt as a wedding gift.  Each great grandchild received a crocheted baby afghan at birth and a crib quilt.  Marie was proud of all her family and loved to have the family together on any occasion.

She is survived by her children, William (Elsie) of Sparta, Del (Jean) of Chetek, Lois (Loren) Caulum of La Crosse, Janet (Steve) Holle of Baldwin,  Lori Eddy of Sparta, Michael (Kathy) of Sparta and Monica (Philip) Haun of Wilton.  She is also survived by 17 grandchildren: Mark (Mallary), Emily (Mike), Meghan (Neil), Andy (Jess), Joe (Mary), Maria (Andy), Jennifer (Scott), Lisa (Andy), Michelle (Ian), David (Becky), Christopher (Alejandra), Jana (Nick), Daniel (Codi), Luke (Heather), Nick (Katie), Seth (Kaylee), Fred (Jessica) and 32 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis, her parents Edward and Anna, a brother Edward and three sisters, Agnes, Rose and Judy.

The family would like to thank Melissa Revels, NP, Tomah Hospice Touch, MaryCrest Assisted Living and the Morrow Nursing Home for the wonderful care they provided to Marie.

Due to Covid 19 a private funeral will be held for her family. The Mass will be streamed live to the funeral home’s Facebook page. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, St. Mary’s Ridge.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
