Marion Cable Obituary

Marion Lucille (Mortenson) Cable passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend.

Marion was born on September 23, 1925 in Ogema, Minnesota to Nels and Bessie Mortenson. She was one of 8 children. Marion left her hometown during World War II and moved to Seattle, Washington working for Boeing Aircraft. After the war, she moved back to Minnesota where she met her husband, Wayne Cable. Marion and Wayne owned and operated The Super Value Grocery Store until the time of his death.

Marion is preceded in death by her parents, sisters; Ruby Gorne, Lavina Zima, Lorraine Hinshaw, Georgena Towles, Arlene Griffith, and one brother, Clyde Mortenson, her husband, Wayne and daughter Susan Dunham. She is survived by her brother Nels Mortenson; children, Doug (Cindy) Cable, and Gina Sanders; seven grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Dunham, Lori (Jeff) Johnson, Jodi Dunham, Joseph Sanders, Leah (Brent) Sturm, Kassidy (Harper) Taggart, and Sam Cable. She is also survived by her seven great grandchildren: Zac, Quincy, Preston, Cullen, Vaughn Johnson, Bodin Taggart, and Ethan Sturm.

Marion was the grandmother everyone wished they had. We all felt special around her and she made the best birthday cakes for all of us. She always had creative crafts to make, and new games to play.  Many of us learned our love for cards and poker from Grandma Meme. She was a very talented woman and excelled in so many activities that included cooking, baking, painting, gardening, golfing and playing bridge with friends. She loved to laugh, tell stories and float down the Mississippi River on her houseboat. We take solace in the knowledge that she is reunited with our Creator and her loving family and friends that have gone before her.

The family would also like to thank the Rolling Hills staff for the excellent care Marion received the last years of her life.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.

The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with arrangements.
