Marvin H. Brueggen, 80, of Sparta passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems, Sparta. He was born on September 13, 1945 at St. Mary’s Ridge, to Bernard and Nora (Schmitz) Brueggen. Marvin went to grade school at St. Mary’s Ridge, and attended Cashton High School.
Marvin moved to Sparta in 1965, where he worked at Northern Engraving for many years, then later worked at Brenengen’s Chevrolet. On September 15, 1990 he was united in marriage to Carol Hemmersbach.
Marvin was on the Erv’s Rural Fire Department for 27 years, until his retirement. He was a dedicated member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta, where he served as an usher regularly. He also enjoyed his work with his friends at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, assisting with funeral services.
Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and always enjoyed his trips to California, to spend time with Judy and Bob.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Carol; two children, Kim (Greg) Hoffman and Marc (Amy) Brueggen of Sparta; 5 grandchildren, Cody (Stephanie) Brueggen of Whitewater, Brandon Brueggen of Sparta, Seth (Tara) Hoffman of Black River Falls, Jeremy (Sarah) Hoffman of Cataract, and Alissa Hoffman of Sparta; 9 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kaylee, Reece, Layla, Ryder, Grayson, Cora, Quinn, and Otto; sister, Norma Jean Miller (Levi) of Cashton; brother, Jerome (Elvera) Brueggen of Cashton; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Nora (Schmitz) Brueggen; daughter, Lisa (Brueggen) Pfaff; granddaughter, Jessica Hoffman; brothers, Donald and Urban Brueggen; sister, Diane Wilde; brother-in-law, Charles Wilde; sister-in-law, Jeanette Brueggen; and many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Eric Berns officiating. Burial will be in St. Pat’s Cemetery, Sparta.
Friends and family are invited for a visitation from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thursday, at the church. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com.
