Patricia A Eggers

Patricia A. (Muhm) Eggers, 89, of Sparta passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born on August 17, 1934 to Fred and Clara (Hartwig) Muhm in Kanawha, IA. She grew up on a farm in Iowa and loved playing with her brothers and sister in the fields and streams.

Patricia married Loney D. Eggers on September 4, 1953 at Maxwell Air Force Base, in Alabama. They had three children and lived in Britt, Iowa until 1968 when they moved to Sparta to continue to raise their family. She was a loving mother and instilled in her children a love for science, art, and music.

Patricia was a teacher’s aide at Lawrence Lawson and Meadowview Middle School for 30 years. Helping the teachers and working with the students brought her great joy. She was a dedicated piano teacher for 36 years. Bringing music into the lives of her students gave great meaning to her life.

Patricia was an active member of the Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing piano at the services, singing in the choir, and helping out with soup supper. But most of all, she treasured all of the special friends she met there. Patricia loved to grow tomatoes and rhubarb in the garden and vibrant flowers that surrounded her home. Most important was the milkweed she grew to help raise Monarch butterflies. Patricia enjoyed sewing and painting, and was known for her fragrant candles and beautiful Ukrainian Eggs. But her most favorite pastime was fishing with her family for largemouth bass and big, black crappies.

Patricia is survived by her children, Steve Eggers, Laura Hanson, and Lisa (Brian) Jansen; grandchildren, Justin (Molly) Hanson, Danielle (John) Hanson, Ryan (Erin) Jansen, and Kayla (Jake) Bohl; great-grandchildren, Adella Jansen, and Rylee Bohl; brother, John Muhm; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Clara Muhm; husband, Loney Eggers; sister Carole Cassel and brothers Ralph Muhm, Merle Muhm, Don Muhm, and Bob Muhm. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at United Methodist Church, Sparta, with Pastor Hae-Jeong officiating. A Luncheon will follow the service at the church. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. 

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
