Phillip E. Kvistad

Phillip E. Kvistad, 88, of Sparta, died Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at his home. He was born in Springfield Township, Jackson County, WI on May 8, 1933 to Carl and Jessie (Nelson) Kvistad. He grew up on the family farm being the youngest of 13 children.

Phillip served in the Marine Corp from 1951 until 1954. He was stationed in California and Hawaii. After the service, he worked a few years for Douglas Aircraft in CA before moving back to Sparta.

Phillip married Sylvia Stendahl on December 28, 1957 in Sparta. Phillip worked for Wesco, Monroe County Highway Department, Sparta Manufacturing, and then Union Sheet Metal until he retired in 1998. He worked part time at Coulee Car Wash in Sparta, known by many as “Phillip’s Carwash”.

Phillip loved woodworking, making many things for family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, watching football, and coaching his children in sports during his younger years.

Phillip is survived by his children, Elizabeth Kvistad, Ricky (Lisa) Kvistad, Lori (Rick) Owen, David Kvistad, Kevin Kvistad, Christopher Kvistad, Jayme (Jess) Kvistad, and Edith Stendahl; 11 grandchildren, Nicole, Crystal, Andy, Adam, Jason, Jacob, Katelyn, Brooke, Kyle, Cameron, and Rochelle; 6 great grandchildren, Brayden, Theron, Logan, Charleigh, Adrienne, and Emiliano.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sylvia; daughter-in-law, Patsy Kvistad; and his siblings.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, with Reverend Randy Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sparta.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Masks will be required.
