Richard (Dick) J. Kast, 80, of Sparta passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025, at his home in Sparta. He was born to Jacob and Eileen (Davy) Kast on December 26, 1944 in La Crosse. He grew up in Melvina. He graduated from Cashton High School in 1963.
He married Marcia L. Klatt on July 30, 1966 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta. They have two sons, Rick and Greg.
Dick was in a tragic accident when he was a young boy that changed his life forever. He overcame many challenges, endured countless adversities and never considered himself limited.
His work ethic and determination motivated every part of his life. Eventually he bought Sparta La Crosse Truck Lines in 1974, founded Advantage Auto Salvage in 1996 and retired in 2006.
He made lifelong friends from every place he worked and traveled. He will be remembered for his quick wit, colorful sayings, and BIG SMILE.
He is survived by his sons Richard II (Rebecca) and Gregory (Vicky), mother of his children Marcia Kast, sisters Mary Kast, Theresa (Jerome) Schmitz, Judy (Paul) Siekert, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings Margaret Kast, David Kast, and Sharon (Del) Warthan.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Eric Berns officiating. Family and friends are invited to the luncheon immediately following the service. The Burial will occur after the luncheon at La Crosse Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse.
A Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Monday, at the Church.
