Shane A. Mertes

Shane A. Mertes, age 54,of Tomah (formerly of Wausau) passed away Sunday June 14th, 2020 at his home. 

He was born August 5, 1965 in Wausau, WI to James and Geralyn Mertes (survived).  He attended Wausau West High School. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Army serving in Germany. 

Growing up Shane enjoyed the outdoors, swimming, being on the water and hunting among his favorites. He was an avid reader; his favorite author was Stephen King. He was a hard worker holding positions at various foundries and factories. He appreciated his years of employment at the V.A. Hospital in Tomah. He had a love of dogs, holding dear, his dog Shaggy.  

He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Mertes (Wausau, WI); two grandchildren, Allison and Judah  his parents, James and Geralyn Mertes (Wausau, WI); his brother, Jason (Michelle);  nephews, Tyler and Colin Mertes (all of Wausau); and Lance and Greg McNair (both of Wausau)  will always be considered his sons. 

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ardith and Herbert LaVake; and his paternal grandparents, Wanda and Joseph Mertes.
