Terry A. Gilkes

Terry Allen Gilkes, 78, of Sparta, passed away at his home on Thursday,  October 20, 2022. He was born on September 7, 1944 to Charles and Lula (Yost) Gilkes in Prairie du Chein.

Terry farmed, hauled  milk, worked at Northern Engraving, and also drove semi to different states.   Throughout his life, Terry  enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and feeding his birds and squirrels. After retirement, Terry enjoyed canning and making homemade soups which he was very proud of.

Terry loved his children, grandchildren,  great grandchildren, his dog Gunner, and cat Sassy.  

He is survived by his wife, Marla Gilkes; four children, Amy (Brian) Gilkes, Tracy Gilkes, Andy (Klarista) Gilkes  and Nicole Gilkes; 9 grandchildren, Danielle Thompson, Ryon Hill, Ethan Billmeyer, Lindsey Kramer, Austin Kramer, Jacob Gilkes, Noah Gilkes, Cooper Sesemann, and Taylor Sesemann; 5 great-grandchildren, Grayson Harbaugh, DanteTieman,  Bentley and Ryder Thompson, and Kinsley McKee (who made his day when she was born on his birthday);  and 1 sister, Phyllis Slaght.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lula Gilkes; brothers, Kenneth Gilkes and Edward Gilkes; sister Glennis Whitish; daughter-in-law Melanie Gilkes;  grandson, Logan Gilkes; and his beloved dog Summer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his daughter Nicole’s home November 27th.
