Todd A Shapiro

Todd Alan Shapiro (Mathison), 59, of Sparta, WI, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from a massive heart attack. Todd was born August 19, 1963 to Thomas J. and Sharon D. Mathison at St Mary’s Hospital in Sparta, WI. Todd attended Sparta High School.

He later went on to work on several farms and The Fox Hole Pub with his brother T.J. He also worked at the former restaurants, Sparta Grill and Coach House. During his free time, he loved to watch the Packers, watch Western movies and comedies, fishing and spending time with his family.

Todd had a great sense of humor, a huge warm heart, and always saw the good in people. He was the one who would give the shirt off his back for others. He never let his struggles dim his smile or his laughter. He had what you called self-effacing humor. And nonetheless, he was always flirting with the nurses and his home care aides. He always had some quick-witted comebacks in any conversation he had.

In the last several years of his life, he resided at Brookside Apartments. The people there became his family away from family. They shared rummage sales, long talks in the community room and so many more memories.

He is survived by his mother, Sharon D. Baumer. His five sisters: Tina (Tom) Connelly, Paula (Mark) Mathison, Terri (Dennis) Schnitzler, Shana Manka, Nikki (Eric) Mathison. 13 nephews and nieces: Billy, Pam, Danny, Hunter, Alanah, Ryan, Cole, Jessica, Brandon, Summer, Seth, Dakota and Dylan. Two great nieces, Ella and Wyllow and two great nephews, Phoenix and Emmett.

He is preceded in death by his father Thomas J. Mathison. His brother Thomas J. (T.J) Mathison. His maternal and paternal grandparents. And his nephew John J. Manka.

A private funeral service will be held for immediate family however a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, tentatively Saturday August 19, 2023, location T.B.D, for friends and family.
