Virginia R. “June” Schwarz, 94, of Sparta passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 17, 2025 at home. She was born on January 21, 1931 to George and Bernice Mlsna in La Crosse, WI. After the death of her mother, she was adopted by Albert and Ruth Mack and grew up in Farmers Valley.
She was united in holy matrimony to Myron Schwarz on June 1, 1950. They bought a farm in Farmers Valley and raised their family there until 1971 when they moved into Sparta.
Throughout her life, June was dedicated to education. She and Myron were instrumental in the building of two area elementary schools and she worked for many years as a pre-school teacher at The Sparta Community Day Care.
She and Myron also opened their home and their hearts to several foster children.
June is survived by her children, Gail (Keith) Raddatz, Don (Cathy) Schwarz, Jerry (Barb) Schwarz, Jane Brueggeman, Chuck (Lori) Schwarz, Dick (Betty) Schwarz and Rod Schwarz; 14 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren; sister, Ardell Muehlenkamp, and several nieces and nephews- all whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Myron; sons-in-law Jerry Massey and Don (Dobie) Brueggeman; daughter-in-law, Margaret Schwarz; grandson, Zachary Schwarz; her parents George & Bernice Mlsna and Albert & Ruth Mack; brothers, Bernard and Leonard Mlsna; sisters Angie Rapp, Leona Hayden, Ruth Aney and Geraldine Mlsna.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Eric Berns officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Sparta.
A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the church. In lieu of flowers: memorials may be made to The Backpack Program, The Boys and Girls Club of Sparta, or The St Patrick’s Endowment Fund. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com.
