Luella A. Edwards Hogue, 86, of Sparta, died Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Sparta. She was born to Clara Long and Theodore Benjamin Edwards on August 17, 1930. She attended grade school and Sparta High School, graduating in 1950. After graduation, she worked as a dental assistant for seven years with the late Dr. Vincent Humphrey.
On October 14, 1956, Luella married Hugh William Hogue. Together, they operated Hogue’s T.V. Sales and Service Store. To this union, two daughters were born, Jeanine Marie Hogue and Merrilee Ann Hogue.
Luella loved to garden and had a big garden. She enjoyed preserving vegetables for her family. One of her favorite sports was car racing, which she and her husband attended. She also enjoyed basketball and baseball games. She enjoyed watching game shows in her later years. Luella also cared for homeless cats. She would take care of them and find them homes. She was a member of the Ambassador Baptist Church.
Luella is survived by her daughter, Merrilee Ann (Chad) Lueder; her grandchildren, Gaige, Rachel, and Caleb Lueder all of Platteville, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugh; and a daughter, Jeanine.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Ambassador Baptist Church, rural Sparta, with Reverend Clyde Ewers officiating. Burial will be in Big Creek Union Cemetery, rural Sparta.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church.
