Dear Schanhofer Family:

I just learned of Mr. Schanhofer's death today. I am with a heavy heart and deeply saddened that a truly great man has died. Mr. Schanhofer was the voice of kindness and the teacher with high standards when I attended high school (Class of 1969). I am currently in education (30th year) and he was one of two high school teachers I always tried to emulate in the classroom. I still remember my knees shaking during my first oral presentation ever in his classroom; presentations were forever easy after being critiqued by a teacher who truly cared about excellence. You have my heartfelt condolences.

Schanhofer Family,

I am so sorry to hear about Mike. What a great man and a positive influence he had on me when I was younger. I have so many fond memories that just came rushing back to me when Ryan and I played little league baseball and Mike coached us. Those were some of my best memories growing up. My thoughts and prayers to you all. Take care.

Over the years the Luxemburg-Casco community has been fortunate to have benefited from the talents of many outstanding educators. Mike Schanhofer must be considered to be at the top of the list. The trait that impressed me the most was Mike's ability to connect with students from all walks of life. I've never met a graduate who hasn't mentioned Mike as one of their best instructors. Thanks Mike, it was an honor to have you as a member of the high school staff. Deepest sympathy to the Schanhofer family.

Mike and I were rival coaches. I was from Algoma and coached baseball. We fought hard but always were friends. after he retired he became President of the Door-Kewaunee retired teachers and did a fine job like he taught and coached.

My sympathy to Mr. Schanhofer's sons and their families. I still can't call him "Mike" and I'm 60+ years old. He earned respect and was a great teacher. He expected the best from his students. Literature taught by him was a tough class but I learned a lot and appreciated it as I ventured to college and into my career.

Sending heartfelt sympathy to the children and family of Mike Schanhofer. I always considered Mr. Schanhofer one of the best teachers I had. He pushed me to always do better. He was interesting and entertaining. Once he threw a clay pot at me and then I knew that he really liked me! Great coach and true leader. Someone who really wanted to make sure his kids were playing for the right reasons and with all their talent. The last time I saw MIke, we talked about my former husband and what a great ball player he was and so nice that his kids also played ball. The bookends are together again and I hope your family can smile knowing that he was loved by his students! God Bless!

In the classroom, you made us want to learn. On the sports fields, you brought so much joy to everyone who attended the events - your teams were well prepared - for the game and for life. You brought laughter and tears. Rest in Peace, Mike. Your work and suffering on earth are over. You have earned your reward. My sympathy to Scott and Ryan and their families. May you find comfort in your father's faith. (Now I have checked for grammar and punctuation errors as I know he would have).

Deepest Sympathy to Mike's family. He is in memories of a lot of young men and woman. His passion for teaching and coaching goes without saying. Mike was my History teacher and then co-worker for 24 years. I typed a lot of his letters of recommendations for students to get jobs or enter college. The students and athletes respected him. I remember the time the girl's won State Basketball and kids put up signs in the halls saying "Schanhofer for President". It was fun for adults and students. Luxemburg-Casco is very thankful to have had Mr. Schanhofer for all those years. Deepest Sympathy from Lynn and Rick Vandervest

This is hard for me. This man was so much more than a coach to me, he was my mentor and also a very good friend. He gave me guidance when I needed it the most. He always claimed that I was one of favorites to coach, but the opposite is true. He got the best out of me something I carried over in my business life. Can not wait till I play for you again. I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I have great memories of Mike and Bonnie when they would spend their summers in Sparta. Living on the same street, many summer days were spent playing with the neighborhood kids, including their son Ryan. I'll always remember Mike letting us kids "flood" the sandbox on an almost daily basis. I also remember Mike and Bonnie sitting with my folks and enjoying their favorite beverages while solving the world's problems. All of these are happy memories. My deepest sympathies are with Ryan, Scott, and their families during this difficult time. I won't be able to attend Mike's service due to a prior commitment, but my thoughts will be in Sparta on Monday.
